2022 Ford Peanut Butter Drive

It’s time to bring loads of peanut butter to your Oregon Ford Dealer

The 2022 Ford Peanut Butter Drive is on, making now the time to bring loads of peanut butter to any Oregon Ford Dealership.  This is one of our favorite events of the year and it has become quite the tradition in the Portland Metro area.  In Oregon, it is estimated by Feeding America, that one in seven children face hunger.  Especially during the summer break many kids experience food insecurity without the free and reduced lunch program.

Childhood Hunger highlighted by the pandemic

More kids are facing hunger in Oregon than ever before.  Many didn’t appreciate the connection between the free and reduced lunch program and childhood hunger.  With many parents out of work and struggling in survival mode many food banks including our local Gresham area ones are seeing more first time clients than ever before.

39% are skipping certain bills more often in order to make sure they have food, according to No Kid Hungry

The Summer Food Service Program provides meals to kids during the school summer break.  These programs don’t require any registration or verification.  The USDA created this program to allow ease of use for students to drop in and pick up a sack lunch and often more.  Click Here to view the Summer Meal Sites for the Gresham-Barlow School District.  You can also find Summer Food Service Programs across Oregon thanks to the Oregon Department of Education locator tool.  You simply add your address and it gives you the closest Summer Food Service Program site to you.  Click Here to view the ODE tool.

Peanut Butter is one of the most popular requested items at every food bank.

With seven grams of protein per serving paired with 30 essential vitamins and nutrients, peanut butter is at the top of the list for kids and nutritionists alike.  The National Peanut Butter Board even encourages stocking the shelves of your local food bank with lots of peanut butter and for good reason.

You may have been taught in school that George Washington Carver invented peanut butter but today there is insight suggesting that the roots of America’s favorite sandwich go back much further.  Some believe that Marcellus Gilmore Edson received a patent for roasted peanut paste.  In 1895 Dr. John Kellogg and the creator of Kellogg’s cereal received a patent for raw peanut paste.  Archeologists have found pottery and decorative items in the shape of the peanut and suggest that the indigenous people of Peru and Brazil enjoyed the treat as far back as 3,500 years.

Today it is estimated that peanuts are the 12th most valuable crop grown in the United States of America.  Peanut butter accounts for almost half of that market.  There is simply no denial that peanut butter is an American staple of any kitchen table.

Oregon Ford Dealers Annual Peanut Butter Drive to End Childhood Hunger

The 2021 Ford Focus on Child Hunger Drive was a huge success and helped Snow Cap Community Charities feed our community.  The Gresham Grocery Outlet was a huge help getting us started with a tower of peanut butter.  You can help by bringing your peanut butter or alternative like almond or cashew butter to any Oregon Ford Dealership like Gresham Ford.  Any of our team members will be happy to help and accept your donation on behalf of Snow Cap Community Charities and the 2022 Ford Peanut Butter Drive.
