Help Stop Hunger
1 in 5 of Your Neighbors face hunger
The pandemic has created an even greater need in East County. The 1 in 5 estimate of food insecure residents in the Gresham area represents pre-COVID numbers. The USDA in 2019 ranked Oregon as the 20th hungriest state in America. With the unprecented houseless impact of the pandemic it is only expected that they numbers have increased greatly. Kirsten Wagerman, Executive Director at SnowCap Community Charities, shared that they have seen a large increase in the needs of our community. While other foodbanks have closed down due to the complexity of meeting and following state and federal Covid guidelines, SnowCap has begun to offer two food boxes each month to serve our community.
What is Fill-A-Bag?
For Riverview, aiding local food banks is an important part of supporting the community. Fill-A-Bag is a grassroots effort initiated and sponsored by Riverview Community Bank, in partnership with Gresham Outlook/Pamplin Media Group, Gresham Ford and businesses throughout East Multnomah County. SnowCap feeds the Gresham area, serving the one in five neighbors in need throughout the year. The 2020 Fill-A-Bag Food Drive for East County Oregon raised over $56,455.71 to purchase food from the Oregon Food Bank at $0.10 per pound. The drive also collected an additional 4,861 pounds of food. New in the 2020 campaign was the collection of over 370 pounds of much needed hygiene items too!
