As the golden years for me are looming just over the horizon, I am feeling the burden more than ever to keep up with the world of technology and especially with our vehicles now days.  It seems every year, there’s something new and the old is obsolete.  And it’s not even that old!

Technology is changing the driving experience so here’s something new offered by AARP. The Smart DriverTEK workshop.  This workshop will keep you in the know about the latest high-tech safety features in your current or future car. From lane departure warnings and smart headlights to blind-spot detection systems and more.  The workshop will help you recognize how these technologies might enhance your driving safety and extend your safe driving years.

That being said, if you’re in the same boat as I am and needing a way to catch up with your Smart Car, here’s a solution that might work for you.

Join us at Gresham Ford on Tuesday, September 11 at 10:00 am for the next Smart DriverTEK workshop. Developed jointly by AARP Driver Safety and The Hartford, the 90-minute workshop is open to all drivers. Space is limited to the first 25 that sign up, and reservations are on a first come, first served basis. Sign up today online at www.greshamford.com/aarp.html

We’re all in this together so join me and let’s learn to be smart drivers in our smart cars!

AARP Technology Safety Class

Cars are becoming more technologically advanced every day and show no sign of slowing down. This means there’s more safety technology in today’s cars than ever before. However, many drivers aren’t familiar with how to use the technology to keep them safe.

That’s why AARP Driver Safety has teamed up with The Hartford and Gresham Ford to develop Smart DriverTEK, a workshop to provide drivers with the necessary tools to navigate modern vehicle technology, and it’s now coming to Gresham.  “With the changes in vehicle technology over the last five years, it’s critical for drivers to stay updated and informed,” said Kyle Rakow, vice president and national director of AARP Driver Safety, which offers the nation’s largest and longest-running driving refresher course. “Many of these technologies have potential to make driving safer, which is why we are so appreciative of The Hartford’s generous commitment to this new endeavor.”

The free, 90-minute workshops, led by a trained AARP volunteer, include an overview of vehicle technology, a step-by-step guide of how these technologies work and how they can benefit drivers, as well as time for people to interact with each other.  The Smart DriverTEK workshop, the first such 90-minute workshop ever presented in Oregon by AARP, will be hosted by Gresham Ford, at 1999 E. Powell Blvd, in Gresham from 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.  Thereafter, plans are for the workshop will be hosted by Gresham Ford on the second Tuesday of each month.

Workshop attendees should leave with a thorough understanding of today’s top vehicle technologies and a general understanding of how to use them. Attendees also receive a vehicle technology checklist, which offers guidance on what technologies they need when shopping for a new car. The workshop is open to drivers of all ages and is free. Participants can register at www.aarp.org/findaworkshop8 or by calling 1-877-805-4115. Space is limited, so registrants should register as soon as possible.
